Studio Pixel is a small, personal fine-line tattoo studio in Schilde, just outside Antwerp, Belgium. One artist, one chair and its own collection of fine-line designs. The studio recently started running on StudioTrackr. Reason enough for a welcome, and for a conversation about the work and what happens behind the scenes.
Who is Studio Pixel?
How would you describe the studio in a few sentences?
“A calm place where your story comes first. I work alone, by appointment, and take my time with every client. Not a busy shop where you wait for someone to be free, but a conversation, a design that suits you and a session where you feel at ease.”
Why fine-line?
What draws you to fine lines?
“Fine-line is precise and understated. A zodiac sign in a floral wreath, a small symbol close to your heart, a botanical design that moves with your body: these are tattoos that don’t shout, but do mean something. I go with what the client prefers. Often that’s a design that’s already finished, sometimes one made with AI, and sometimes I draw it specifically for you, depending on what you’d like. That way you know up front what you’ll get, and at the session we can focus fully on placement and the lines.”
From first message to aftercare
What does an appointment with you look like?
“It usually starts with a message or an email: which design you like and the spot on the body. I give a rough price indication up front, and we settle the exact price at the session. On the day itself we find the right size and placement together.”
“After the session you get a second skin, which is best left on for a few days, followed by three weeks of keeping it moisturised and protected. I always explain that before you leave, because you don’t remember everything after a session.”
The admin behind the needle
What does StudioTrackr do for the studio?
“Everything that isn’t tattooing but still has to get done. My calendar is in it, with the design and the price for each session. For every client I see the previous sessions and notes right away, which helps with a touch-up or a second tattoo that has to match the first.” Here is how: how to plan a session in the calendar.
“The biggest difference is the consent form. My own form is in the app, the client reads it calmly on the tablet and signs there, and the signed form is kept with their client record. No more folders of paper, and I know nothing is missing before I start.” See how that works in our how-to on signing the consent form. What belongs in such a form is covered in our consent form guide.
“And at the end of the day my receipts are ready for the accountant. As a small studio you don’t want to spend every evening on that.” More on that in our guide to the daily receipts book.
Advice for a new studio
What would you tell someone starting their own studio?
“Sort out your admin from day one, even when you only have a few clients. One place for your appointments, your clients and your forms saves you hours of searching later. And take your time with your clients. A calm session is the best advertising there is.”
